A brief points

1. For men and inside Mosques, no shorts are allowed, cover your tattoo.

2. For WOMEN cover your head with a scarf and cover yourself with an Abaya.

3.No photography of Military and checkpoints.

4.No drugs, if caught, you will end up in jail!

5. DO NOT pick up any Artifacts or Stone from archeological sites, no matter how small it is! you might face the Death penalty!

6. DONT PANIC, Iraq is heavily militarized! police and military are everywhere, inside and outside cities.

7. Dress for Women, cover your shoulder, no shorts, no lower than knees, to blend in.

8.ATMs are available around big cities, but CASH IS the king.

9. Many checkpoints around the country, just smile and hand in your passport! again don't get panicked, they are here for our safety and stability.

10. MEN greets MEN by waving their hands, or handshakes (first times) while hugs and kisses on 2nd times. Women Greet MEN by waving their hands or hand-on-heart gestures. WOMEN greet WOMEN with hugs and kisses. also putting your hand on your heart is a respectful greeting or thanking gesture for both genders.

11. Tea Culture is a huge thing, cups are filled with sugar! NO SUGAR:bidun sukar(Arabic) Beshakr(Kurdish)

12. Bring your own towels, not every hotel provides towels!

13. Use eastern toilets (squat), only in some places western toilets are available. Instead of toilet paper, we use bidet spray. so prepare and practice squatting to embrace new cultures (:

14. No public toilets (or few, which might cost 500 IQD), but you can access mosque toilets for free. (toilet in arabic : twalet; hamamt; marafuq; w.c.)

15. Alcohol only in specific areas! don't try to drink in holy cities, Najaf and Karbala at all.
